This painting is of a place I pass by when driving to Halifax from the Annapolis Valley.  The white cliffs along the river attracted me to capture them in watercolor. The cliffs have a dignity and beauty.  The  painting is 30 x 18 high x 1.5 inches. 

Before winter set in Reflections

Gratitude 10 by 12

I have called this painting Gratitude as  this dog is waiting for just the smallest sign of love. She delights in a gentle touch and a kind word. She is waiting for a sign of appreciation.  She is a picture of gratefulness.  I love it when she visits my home except when she swims in my fish pond!

Gaspereau Valley

   
One of the most beautiful places is the peaceful Gaspereau Valley where grape vines wind their way down to the river.  It is  favorite place to take a ride on a truck tube and gentle drift down the river while enjoying in the fall colors.  I hope this landscape catches some of that beauty.

This painting uses Gallery Wrap Paper  and is 50 by 35 inches in size .It has four coats of preservative that protects the painting from dirt.  It can be wiped with a damp cloth when dusty.

The End of Ransom Creek

I often walk to this location beside the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia.  I call this painting The End of Ransom Creek as it is the place where the creek meets the Bay of Fundy.  It is 48 inches wide by 30 inches.

Grand Pre Beauty

This portrait is large, about  13 by 19 inches  and reflects the deep shadows at the end of the day. This gives a chance for her beautiful features to be in the spotlight.

Portrait in Progress Next steps

So here is the next step in the portrait.  I have developed the hat colors taking care that the fur is full of many colors. The next step will be to fully develop the skin color including the deep shadows.  Let's hope we can get it right I have now finished this portrait and it is SOLD   I do accept commissions so let me know if you are interested in having a portrait done.

Run in the Snow

This large watercolor painting was inspired by a walk at sun set along the Bay of Fundy. This dog has such joy in the walk.  Painting is 36 by 24 inches. Let me know if you would like to see it. 902 670-8800.

Portrait in Progress

Some of you would like to see a painting in progress.  I am working on a painting of a beautiful two year old boy.  I have begun by  lightly  and carefully drawing  his face on watercolor paper.  Next I begin by  blocking in the skin color with the lightest of shades of skin.  Next the eyes, the face is  fully developed. Now you will see the hat shaded in with the lightest of values.  Next the coat color is added

 and this where I am at this morning.  Check out the final portrait where the fur hat is developed in all the rich fur colors. A watercolor painting must preserve the lightest of colors so I work from light to dark.  Let me know if your are interested in this process. The painting is 18 by 24 inches in size.

Art Installation in Progress

It has been 8 months in progress.  My art installation in Uncommon Common Art is one of 16 that will be in place by May 25, 2016 in Kings County Nova Scotia.  People and Place is  visual reminder that people effect place and place effects people.  Now in my studio are  eleven whimsical portraits of living people in Grand Pre waiting to be put up at the corner of Grand Pre Road and Old Post Road in Grand Pre.  They will be installed so that the people are looking over the hedge. You will find a map of the location of other art installations when they are printed.  What you see here is the portraits being worked on in my studio.  They are painted on gourds which I  grew in my garden. Blueberry Fields in Fall Series of Paintings

This beautiful color comes from the leaves of the blueberry plants in the fall.  An exciting end to a productive crop of wild  blueberries. The last painting measures H 30 inches by W 36 inches.
